Deep Fried Dub is an electronic duo that consists of two Melbourne based producers Ben Hartley (A.K.A B. Hartless) and Ben Dudding (A.K.A Dr. Benway). The Deep Fried sound is an eclectic mix of contemporary electronic beats with deep dub stylings that crosses genres as diverse as Dub, Drum and Bass, Dance Hall and Deep Tribal Beats.
The two producers originally met in Auckland (NZ) where they formed the electronic dance group Redivider in 1996. Their early involvement in integral events such as the gathering helped form the early dance music scene in New Zealand and gained them a cult following and extensive radio play on alternative radio. In 1997 Redivider released the track โisorhythmicโ on the compilation โAK โ97โ, a collaborative project documenting the Auckland electronica scene at the time. Ben and Ben both moved to Melbourne in 2000 along with fellow producer Freq (Aran Gallagher) where they formed the production studio โPolygon Labsโ.
Initially working on solo projects under the pseudonyms B. Hartless and Dr. Benway, the two Bens started collaboration again in 2003 with a new dubwise sound. After playing numerous festivals in New Zealand (such as Alpine Unity), Deep Fried really started getting recognition in Australia last year when they started playing at a number of high profile festivals such as Earth Dance and Rainbow Serpent.
Deep Fried Dub are now working with a number of artists including Vocalist Lotus. With the debut album about to be released, they are currently working on material for the next Album.
